[Autocross] Points Event #5 with TSCC: August 2023

Autocross testing of the MK8 PCV experiment

My fastest run of the day, note zero knock retard on all 4 cylinders since the MK8 PCV install!

It was a HUMID August day at Virginia Motorsports Park - my primary goal was strictly to test the MK8 PCV valve retrofit.

First the good news: I did 6 runs in 80F+ heat with ZERO knock retard (edit for correctness after reviewing the data: I did have a single -1.125 deg pull on cyl 1 once in run #5. So definitely not oil-ingestion related... likely just a single expected knock event. It happened as I was coming off the throttle. This also happened right before the stupid torque limiter problem… which brings us to the:

Bad news: my higher boost map didn't like something I did on run #5 and set an EPC light a bit over halfway through. I set a DTC for an ECU internal torque error so I think it's a table intervening that I need to address in the tune, so it's minor. I ran #6 on my more conservative boost/lots more timing map again with zero timing pull.

My driving wasn’t exactly great, and ended up finishing 2nd in XA (of 8) behind a very good driver in a Focus RS, and 4th in our PAX based “bump class” (of 17) which includes all the SCCA provisional classes (which means up against CAM and their soft PAX).

All 6 runs with the exception of run 4 - I forgot to manually trigger Simos Tools, so it only picked up a few portions where I went WOT with the pedal > 95%. Run 5 you can see the long period of coasting after the EPC light. Most importantl: you can see the lack of knock in the bottom segment which was a great success and my primary goal to determine today.

In case you missed the MK8 PCV development, you can read/watch more about it here.
