[Autocross] Points Event #8 with TSCC: November 2024

Very lazy update 6 months later

First things first

If it hasn’t been obvious - I’ve been almost completely inactive since November as far as Facebook and the Golf MK7 forums go. Life’s been busy and I decided to table car things (especially the website/YouTube channel) for a bit to take a break from it all. I’m attempting to get caught back up and want to at least document that this event occurred so that’s why it’s being posted now. I don’t have any videos or anything so this is really just to share what happened and how the year ended overall.

Going into the event

Rick and I were in a battle for XA season points right up to this last points event. He had a new downpipe put on and the tune changed so was now making a bit more power… but unfortunately I just wasn’t driving well at all that day. Coned away runs 1/3/5, 4 was my best but just wasn’t good enough. Not hooking up on launch is definitely where my GTI loses most of it’s time to Rick’s Alltrack and I just wasn’t able to put things together to make up for that on the rest of the course. My buddy Bernard (who co-drove with me last time) was also able to put a run together just shy of 0.2 faster than me as well.

Results Summary

3rd (of 6) in XA

5th (of 21) in the Provisional Class (PAX based vs all CAM classes and XB as well)

18 (of 94) in overall PAX

14 (of 94) in raw time

Season points standings

For overall season points, there were originally 8 events scheduled. Event #2 was cancelled. To qualify for points, each driver had to have attended at least (4) events. Each driver’s best (5) events were used for scoring, so a perfect score would be 500 points.

I finished 6th overall (of 41 qualifying drivers) in PAX and 4th (of 8) in the Provisional Classes. Not great, but not terrible. For a car that is NOT built to the ruleset, and doesn’t have proper coilovers… I’m pretty happy with it overall. If I wanted to remain competitive in autocross I would have never modified it beyond the STH ruleset. I think an Audi TTS or TTRS would be the ultimate MQB platform car for XA class autocross (but still might not be “the” car to have if national events are your thing).

What’s in store for 2025?

For autocross - probably not much. I volunteered for the novice school already but due to scheduling conflicts was unable to attend the points event the day after. 2025 is going to be a lot less autocrossing due to focusing on other stuff, but a couple HPDE events and maybe an autocross in other peoples’ cars may be in order.
